All Reentry Employment Opportunities (REO) participants receive 12 months of follow-up post-exit regardless of the REO grant they are involved in. While this should be perceived as an added benefit to the core services they have already received, many grantees find participation during follow-up often decreases. Follow-up services should be perceived as an opportunity and a resource for participants, rather than an additional program requirement. Grantees with strong follow-up services begin messaging them at the start of programming and develop creative and beneficial activities that keep participants/alumni engaged and retained. Topics include:
- Discussing follow-up throughout the REO grant life cycle
- Understanding the retention dilemma
- Program development during follow-up
- Messaging follow-up
- Maximizing the use of incentives.
