Support for Entrepreneurs with Disabilities

About

Social Security’s Ticket to Work (Ticket) program may be able to help on the path to success in self-employment.

The Ticket program supports career development for people ages 18 through 64 who receive Social Security disability benefits (SSI or SSDI) and want to work. The program is free and voluntary. It helps people with disabilities move toward financial independence and connects them with the services and support they need to succeed in the workforce, including self-employment.

Participants decide whether they’d like to work with an Employment Network (EN) or state Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency to develop a self-employment goal and a plan to achieve their goal. Once a the goal and plan is agreed to/accepted, supports include assistance with developing a business idea, writing a business plan, and finding funding to help start the business.
